For many, a woodburning stove is one of those simple luxuries, creating warmth, atmosphere and a beautiful focal point within the home. At The Fireplace and Stove Co., we specialise in helping homeowners find the perfect stove and fireplace combination, carefully selected to complement both the character of their home and their individual style.
The Brief: Work with the interior designer to create a contemporary setting for the planned Art Deco styling we intend to use in the room.

Design & Installation Highlights
Clean Focus: Omitting a traditional oak beam creates an elegant, uncluttered fireplace that highlights the stove as a modern focal point.
Art Deco Alignment: The stove's clean geometric profile pairs effortlessly with bold metallic accents, dark wood tones, and geometric wall art common in Deco styling.
Optimal Flame View: A wide front glass pane provides a generous view of the fire, casting a warm glow across velvet upholstery, marble surfaces, and polished brass fixtures.
Proportional Fit: The compact footprint lets it sit comfortably on a simple slate or dark stone hearth, maintaining balanced proportions within the chimney breast.
We began by removing the existing timber surround, tile set and electric fire, creating a clean starting point for the new installation. We then built out the chimney breast using a non-combustible metal stud framework and Glasroc Firecase, providing a safe and robust structure around the new stove and flue system. Once constructed, the breast was fully plastered ready for our client to apply their chosen decorative finish.
The chimney breast was made deeper to accommodate the new woodburning stove while also allowing us to safely house the twin-wall insulated stainless steel flue system. As the property had no existing masonry chimney, a twin-wall flue system was required.
The flue system was carefully routed through the bedroom above before continuing into the loft space. From there, the twin-wall insulated stainless steel flue was taken through the roofline using a high-quality lead-based flashing with an EPDM rubber neck, providing a durable and weather-resistant seal around the twin wall flue system.
Safety First: What is a Firestop?
A firestop is fitted wherever the flue system passes through a floor or ceiling. Its purpose is to maintain the required safe clearance between the flue and any combustible materials, such as timber joists and flooring, while helping to prevent the transfer of fire and heat between different levels of the property.
The firestop assembly also incorporates a support clamp, which helps keep the flue correctly positioned and securely supported as it passes through the building. A neat decorative ceiling plate is then fitted around the opening, providing a clean and professional finish.
