The project

Our client wanted a natural stone fireplace that would complement their contemporary interior and work beautifully alongside the built-in feature recesses within the right-hand alcove of the room. They also wanted a woodburning stove with a large viewing window, giving them an uninterrupted view of the flames as the fire gently burns away on a cold winter's evening.

The whole house had recently undergone a complete renovation, with high levels of insulation installed throughout to retain heat and eliminate unwanted natural draughts. While this is excellent for the home's energy efficiency, it meant that the stove needed to be carefully selected. It had to be highly controllable, allowing the heat output to be reduced when required while still maintaining a clean, efficient burn without the stove glass becoming blackened by carbon deposits.

To meet our client's requirements, we chose the Madison natural limestone fireplace, complemented by a slightly textured Antique Leather matt black granite hearth. For the stove, we selected the Contura 210 woodburning stove, a beautifully designed appliance that combines a large viewing window with excellent control over the combustion process.

The work

What we did

The Madison fireplace features a distinctive recessed Deco design that creates a timeless focal point in almost any living space, whether traditional or contemporary. Crafted from natural stone, its recessed front is carefully carved into the surround, creating depth and definition while adding a subtle touch of Art Deco-inspired architectural elegance.

The combination of the naturally textured limestone, matt black granite hearth and contemporary Contura 210 creates a beautifully balanced fireplace. The natural stone brings warmth and character to the room, while the clean lines of the stove complement the contemporary interior. Most importantly, the large glass window provides exactly what our clients were looking for, a wonderful view of the dancing flames and a relaxing focal point for the room on those cold winter evenings.
